9/1/2010, 1:17am HammerBro Wow, this is a dream come true. I've got maybe 1,500 files (I think they're all shows) lyin' around in .mp3 but they're woefully unorganized -- my plan was to sort things properly and go on the hunt after I'd finished listening to most of 'em, but I've still got basically all of 2005 left.

When I get some hard drive space, which should happen in a month or two, I'll probably go on the downloading war path. And do my best to check it against what I already have, in case some things I've got are better than or missing from here.

Until then, keep up the good work! Seriously, I can (and probably will) listen to Adam-era Loveline for the rest of my life. It's already been one of my highest forms of amusement these past three or so years, and I haven't completed a single pass!
Reply from HammerBro on 9/2/2010, 1:06am:
So I went ahead and downloaded the late '95 and '96 stuff (I'm really here for the Adam and Drew hullabaloo), and did a quick check against my general mess. It looks like a lot of what I have from pre-'97 is the stuff you guys have, but I also ran across "Loveline - 1993-12-23 (The Melvins) (Drew & KROQ DJ Tammy) cf.mp3" which you guys don't seem to posess. And five other things that are much less clearly dated, but appear to be missing here (after a cursory glance). What's the best way to get things to you guys? I'm not saying I have a lot to contribute, and in fact it'll probably be a while before I find another thing I'm fairly certain you don't have here, but I suspect repeated MediaFirings would get tiring.

Speaking of which, http://www.mediafire.com/?3ewt4n7ovt2a4md
8/22/2010, 5:29pm Vicarofchrist Hey, love the site first off... Had some suggestions.

How about when you pull up a page that has a year's worth of shows, being able to sort them by listens/votes/rating/comments?

I'd also suggest allowing users to pull up every show and not just from a single year at a time.

Aside from that, the show is fantastic.
8/21/2010, 11:35am mmc Love and appreciate all that you guys have put into this site. Thanks a lot.
7/22/2010, 11:45pm 00000001 Any chance of viewing shows with recently updated descriptions? Description submission count on the user member page? A view showing the episodes the user contributed descriptions (not comments) to?
Reply from Liface on 7/25/2010, 5:45pm:
I like this idea.
7/21/2010, 5:13pm pastahero I edited the commercials out of the 2002-06-20 show. How can I upload it to the site?
Reply from unclepenny on 7/25/2010, 1:49pm:
If you put it on mediafire and send me a link I'll upload it here. I've been trying to fix that 2005-10-09 ep but it keeps timing out on me, I'll have a fast internet connection in a few weeks though. You can email that to me if you want adamdristle@twcny.rr.com
Reply from pastahero on 7/26/2010, 10:19am:

Reply from unclepenny on 8/29/2010, 1:29pm:
I was finally able to upload this, thanks.
7/19/2010, 1:32pm pastahero The file on the page for 2005-10-09 (Lisa Edelstein) is actually a duplicate of 2005-10-19 (Criss Angel).
7/15/2010, 12:35am Lucious Enward Can't believe you guys have found so many of these 90's shows...are there any more leads currently?

I was thinking a mass "Wanted" post on every town's craigslist page might turn up more leads for early tapes.

Reply from Giovanni on 7/15/2010, 12:42am:
Yeah due to the efforts of Unclepenny I've managed to recover over 800 more shows since 2008 most of which are from the 90's.
Jeff the creator of this site provided 100 tapes from 90's in amazing condition, lots of great stuff from that batch.

NO new leads that I know of, I have a few existing ones and am in the long process of replacing some 2k era low quality shows in the mean time.

Adam D.(unclepenny) has posted numerous craigslist wanted ads across the US, it's worth a shot to try and ad more I guess.

The problem we're running into is that there are other people out there actively seeking tapes that don't want to share them and if they ever choose to do so it might take years, unsuspecting fans might give their tapes to the wrong people.

We know of a large batch, very large that was thrown away by a guys mom and another that's supposedly a personal collection of an ACMB member but he's never come forward with more info or a single file.
Reply from spinfly on 7/15/2010, 9:40am:
Wow, I think that Craigslist idea is fantastic. Can we put you in charge of that?
Reply from unclepenny on 7/16/2010, 3:27pm:
I'll repost some more craigslist ads tonight, will use one of the old affiliate listings from an old fan page I bookmarked to get a list of cities that carried the show back then. The only issue is it won't let me post the same ad twice in one day due to spammers, maybe if I change the wording around enough I'll be able to. Creating multiple craigslist accounts might work too, don't want to get banned or anything because of that though. I posted on some similar sites also but those went nowhere. There is/was a craigslist ad from a guy requesting MTV shows, don't respond to him, he tried selling some for $50 and claimed he was getting the entire collection but never came through. Like Gio said, a lot of people out there trying to snake tapes from us also...
7/11/2010, 3:08am jgerun I like the random feature in the bottom corner but would it be possible to make it a button rather than a page refresh and also if it opened automatically to that episode's page?
6/29/2010, 2:52am Liface Spinfly/Jeff, another suggestion, would you be willing to re-tag all files uploaded to this site to make listening/sorting easier?

You can use the guide I posted here:
http://mahalo.30.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=18983

I noticed you're running Linux to host this site, there should be a tagging program for that, I'll even rewrite the syntax for you if you want.

Not sure how hard this would be but it would be a huge help.
Reply from spinfly on 6/29/2010, 9:53am:
I've standardized the way downloaded files are named, and cleaning up the ID3 tags for the MP3s was next on my to-do list. Just needed to come up with some standards.

I already have a method for tagging the files, but I'll also take a look at Mp3tag. I'd love to add album art, and it would be nice to use some of Michael Narren's art for that, but I haven't received official permission from him yet.
6/29/2010, 2:04am Liface Suggestion: "Latest comments" box.
Reply from spinfly on 6/29/2010, 9:45am:
Latest comments for what?
Reply from spinfly on 6/29/2010, 9:54am:
Oh, to the home page? Which box should I replace? It would be awkward to add just one more box...
Reply from Liface on 7/10/2010, 6:11pm:
I would replace "recent listens".
6/20/2010, 6:17pm unclepenny Quick note, the names of guests were taken from the wiki, not whatever what put on the file names. They went by names of band members and not the names of bands. I think... once you download an mp3 and open it in itunes the original name should reappear. If not I'll go through and change things, maybe put band member names under the "guest info" column. Like Jeff said, still beta phase, working out the kinks...
6/20/2010, 3:43am Liface Spinfly, any way to delete comments?
Reply from spinfly on 6/29/2010, 8:00pm:
Not just yet. Working on it.
6/16/2010, 3:33am Liface Hey guys, a couple things about the site. One, it seems to be marking that I "listened" to shows even after just clicking on the links for them. Any way to mark shows as listened only when the user clicks the play button on the inline player or the download link?

Two, there a lot of old shows that were added and then the sound clip was never associated with them, so they are blank. Example is here:
http://www.lovelinetapes.com/shows/?id=2767

Can these be deleted? The problem is they show up when you click "Next Show".
Reply from spinfly on 6/17/2010, 1:48am:
There's currently no way to differentiate between show pages you've viewed and those you've actually clicked the play button for. Even then, have you "listened to" a show if you click it and then stop it immediately? Something to consider for a future enhancement.

Thanks for the tip for the shows without recordings. Not sure what the best move is there. I want the show pages to be visible so that people can see that there WAS a show on that date, see who the guest was, and leave comments about the show. Also, if they SEE that there are no recordings, maybe they can submit one, and then everybody wins.
6/4/2010, 7:56pm PxRx Comment: This site is a dream come true for Loveline fans.

Question: For the May 05th, 1999 show with Jon Cryer there is only one available recording that lasts one hour eleven minutes. I have a file that lasts one hour thirty-four minutes, not sure where I got it. Is this something you guys probably already have?
Reply from unclepenny on 6/4/2010, 11:57pm:
I think I know what happened, the correct date of that show is 1999-05-04, the recording from TOBYDOG that was transferred in summer '08. It got put under the 1999-05-05 show with Kennedy, I'll switch it to the correct date (the 4th) so there will be 2 versions of the Jon Cryer and the one recording of Kennedy. Kind of confusing I know, thanks for catching that though.
5/25/2010, 12:38am Lucious Enward Will you guys be adding the post 2005 lovelines where Adam was a guest host/guest?
Reply from unclepenny on 6/4/2010, 11:58pm:
Nahh, sorry. We can't post any of the more recent stuff here since it's content that WW1 charges people for.
5/18/2010, 11:20pm Giovanni I just heard that someone here posted about having a batch of tapes, that is amazing.
Please contact me via Govanni.gp@hotmail.com if your the person or if your a new user with old Loveline tapes.

There are other people in the community who will try and bribe you or tell you anything you want to hear in order to get your tapes, many of these people have an agenda and a history of hoarding content.

They'll take your tapes and keep them, they'll digitize at their leisure if they even attempt to and then there will be 3+yrs of waiting while they contemplate the date of the show even if you provide accurate labels, this all sounds nuts but there are just as many people out there trying to ruin what we do as there are people supporting the cause.

if you got tapes and you read this, don't let anyone know you have them, just email me and I'll make sure you're tapes are treated like the most precious items on earth, I can't pay you for them but I will Digitize them in the best quality possible and in the fastest amount of time, I have done 200 tapes in 5 weeks before.
I will also provide you with other content that can't be hosted here and other gems you don't even know exist, you will be rewarded and your goods returned with digital copies.

Time is running out on our hobby and we have malicious assholes trying to run the clock out even faster, avoid them and work with us.

5/18/2010, 1:18am theabsurdity I have an idea for a Favorites page so people can save their favorite episodes allowing them to come back to them on a later date. And it would be an easy way to get new people interested in this show by sharing the link. Just a thought. You guys do awesome work and I cannot thank you enough.
Reply from spinfly on 5/18/2010, 1:51am:
Yup, It's in the works!
5/14/2010, 11:09pm Phant nm what i have is a mislabeled duplicate of 1996-12-09
Reply from unclepenny on 5/14/2010, 11:11pm:
Yup, I got rid of the listing that had it as the 10th, the 9th date was confirmed by Adam saying it was the same night as the premier of the MTV show.
5/14/2010, 11:05pm Phant I've got a file called
Loveline 1996-11-11 KoRn.mp3
I see
http://www.lovelinetapes.com/shows/?id=23
Sunday, November 10, 1996
GUEST(S): Korn

with no recordings, so maybe what I have is a misdated version of that?

39mb 1:23:23 64kbps
5/13/2010, 1:33pm Lusious Why are there some shows post 2000 in the "other" section with unknown dates? I thought everything 00-05 was known. Ex. David Arquette show is already in the archive...just curious.
Reply from unclepenny on 5/14/2010, 3:37pm:
Basically they were from unlabeled tapes and just guessed. When I actually have some free time I'll go in and fix them. Some early 2000 is guesses I think.
5/8/2010, 10:06pm myname Giovanni, I just found this site, is this your doing? I can't believe you have all these old shows. This is amazing, keep it up! I've been listening since '96.
Reply from spinfly on 5/10/2010, 10:57pm:
It's three of us who have put it together. Check the FAQ.
5/8/2010, 7:56pm earth2freak Shows 6/9/97 and 6/10/97 are the same show. I am not sure which date is correct.

Reply from unclepenny on 5/14/2010, 3:41pm:
I'll try to figure that out too, the 6/10 is higher quality, 128kbps. I recommend y'all listen to that one.
5/4/2010, 4:23pm tpstoner Gio, what was the show that you had to re-spool by hand for many hours? I want to hear that one out of respect for the time put into it.
5/4/2010, 1:29pm pastahero I have a suggestion, if it's not difficult to implement: How about the Summary search also queries the Comments field?
Reply from spinfly on 5/10/2010, 10:46pm:
Not difficult, just need to figure out how I want to offer that option... Coming soon.
Reply from spinfly on 6/2/2010, 11:57pm:
OK, it's in there now. You can search through summaries and comments with the same field.

Adding comments in means that search results now take a lot longer to return. I'll see if I can speed that up a bit later on.
5/4/2010, 10:31am jonfw2 Just got signed on- the sound quality is incredible. Thanks, Giovanni and all others for the hard work!
5/2/2010, 6:16pm Giovanni If you're a member here and transferred shows in the past, you can submit your info in order to be properly credited for them.
There are still many shows without transfered by/recorded by info, even some of my own are being credited to other users here, some archivists have signature bitrate/khz they use.
4/30/2010, 5:29pm tpstoner This site is great! I always thought the first 5 years of the show would be gone forever but I think together we can find most of them! It's like the Johnny Carson show - he moved from New York to Burbank and NBC deleted all 10 years of his New York run - crazy...only a few hours remain. Anyways, do you have a lot of eps that aren't uploaded yet?
Reply from Giovanni on 4/30/2010, 5:35pm:
No unlike some other old tape collectors or show archivers I don't hoard content, whatever I or Unclepenny find gets done ASAP and then gets posted almost always before I even have time to hear it in full myself.

I'm working on 22 more files from the latest batch, but they require heavy editing to remove popping from the source audio, I should have them up here by the end of the week at the latest.
4/30/2010, 2:19pm Tom Not even IMDB has list of episodes of the TV show. How many were there? How many do you guys have?
Reply from Giovanni on 4/30/2010, 2:31pm:
MTV shuts down sites for hosting the eps and THERE ARE NONE HERE, they recorded 400 roughly.

We have an almost complete list someplace, there's some random link with several hundred of the dates and guests listed, I have lost that link but Unclepenny has it and will be along with it shortly.

We have recovered between 65-80 complete and incomplete episodes of the MTV show, toss me an email to discuss this further, please don't talk about it here.
Reply from unclepenny on 4/30/2010, 3:21pm:
314 total according to fancast:

http://www.fancast.com/tv/Loveline/90557/episodes
Reply from Giovanni on 4/30/2010, 5:33pm:
I think that 314 figure is incomplete
4/26/2010, 12:06am JSmith Is there a way to add new show notes when there are already show notes?
Reply from spinfly on 4/26/2010, 12:34am:
Just added a link you can use to submit additions and corrections to show summaries.
4/22/2010, 4:09pm Chris Rudd Can you give me a list of episodes that feature DAG either as a guest or guest host? I MUST listen to every one of them!
Reply from spinfly on 4/22/2010, 4:11pm:
Do you not see the search bar at the top of the page?
4/22/2010, 2:18pm pastahero I have taken notes on tons of shows. Not quite summaries, but if I hear a really funny bit or the origin of a classic drop, I write it down. How can I share them with others?
Reply from spinfly on 4/22/2010, 2:23pm:
In the next few days, I'll start allowing users to submit show summaries (or submit edits to summaries that are already written).

In the next week or two, I'm going to be working on call-tagging, so that you can add notes specific to certain calls.

There will be a place somewhere for you to add everything you have. :)
4/17/2010, 2:30pm herrbasan Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Me and my wife listen loveline since we discovered it on the interwebs a few years back. When the random stream went down, it was like losing a limp ... but now .. this is so great ... my head explodes ... any way to donate to the cause?

Greetings from Germany
Reply from spinfly on 4/17/2010, 5:10pm:
As much as we would like some help covering the costs, we're not allowed to accept any donations at this point.

If any of this changes, we'll definitely let you know. Thanks for offering!
4/16/2010, 6:37pm Scott http://www.lovelinetapes.com/shows/?id=36

FYI, this show lists the guest as Tom Arnold, and there is no guest.
Reply from unclepenny on 4/16/2010, 11:35pm:
Hey Scott, ong story short, the guests were based on the Wiki from a few months ago and a bunch of them were unknown. I'm going through and adding them in though...

-Adam
4/15/2010, 9:00pm Scott Hi, and thanks for this great archive. Please note the following show lists the hosts as Adam and Dr. Drew, and it not correct, as Dr. John substituted for Dr. Drew.

Reply from spinfly on 4/17/2010, 4:34pm:
Not at the moment. Bulk-downloading might be an option in the future, but it's way down the list...
4/13/2010, 11:29pm earth2freak I just want to let you know that there is no download link in the 97 shows that I have been looking at. The messageboard said to drop you a line about any issues. Thanks!
